Pronunciation Guide

In 9 months, I will be a graduate of Carleton College. But before that, I have to graduate. And I’ll be damned if they don’t pronounce my full name correctly at graduation. The college agrees, and so they sent out a sheet to all the graduating students that included a pronunciation guide. Here, for Carleton’s and your reference, is that guide (as always, click for larger):

  1. My God, I’ve been screwing this one up for THREE YEARS!

  2. Scottie, you are a gentleman and a scholar of the first order. Thank you so much for this.

  3. Actually, you have been mispronouncing your name for ~20 yrs. You only had it correct when you were 6 months old.

  4. Hal’s last sentence was exactly what I was going to say. Only you, sir. This may be my favorite document ever. I may have to use it to teach primary documents to my high school history kids. I would like to frame this, then take a picture of it framed, then frame that, and put it on my wall.

  5. This made my morning.
